Center for Simulation and Data Science
With the Center for Simulation and Data Science RWTH Aachen and Forschungszentrum Jülich will create a unique, international visible competence center. Within the Center, computer- and data-infrastructures, user support as well as methodical and disciplinary research in the fields of simulation, data analysis and HPC technologies of both partners are consolidated. These include the JARA-HPC section of the Jülich-Aachen Research Alliance as well as the AICES graduate school, the German Research School for Simulation Sciences, the Institute for Advanced Simulation (IAS) and the profile area Computational Science & Engineering (CompSE). The Center for Simulation and Data Science’s goal is to contribute to today’s research landscape by making the use of data analysis systems and HPC systems available to a broad scientific user spectrum and at the same time encouraging top-level research, that would not be possible without the joint activities and resources within the Center.
JARA-CSD comprises the four central performance dimensions:
- Research (House of Simulation and Data Science, HSD)
- Teaching, qualification and training (School for Simulation and Data Science, SSD)
- Provision of infrastructure (Infrastructure for Simulation and Datascience, ISD)
- Transfer (Simulation and Data for Society, SDS)
Simulation and Data Laboratories and Cross-Sectional Groups / Teams
In order to enable the computational science communities to solve problems with high scientific impact through efficient use of HPC, several SDLs and CSGs/ CSTs were established since 2009 in the context of JARA.
