With the German-Canadian Materials Acceleration Centre (GC-MAC), the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Canadian government are creating a joint platform for the rapid development of climate-neutral energy technologies. Its objective is to achieve technological advances in particular in hydrogen production as well as CO2-neutral fuels and energy storage. The coordinator for Germany is JARA-ENERGY member Prof. Michael Eikerling, head of the Institute for Energy and Climate Research (IEK-13) at Forschungszentrum Jülich.

The HDS-LEE program is now complemented and expanded by three new projects. The participating scientists were thus not only able to acquire new projects in the research area of artificial intelligence, but in this way create additional positions for doctoral students. The new projects also broaden the research spectrum of HDS-LEE and strengthen the network of partner institutions. Among others, the JARA Center for Simulation and Data Science is involved in the program.

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) approved a Käte Hamburger Kolleg for RWTH Aachen University. Beginning in May, the Center, entitled "Cultures of Research," will be funded for an initial four-year period with more than nine million euros. Under the direction of Prof. Gabriele Gramelsberger and Prof. Stefan Böschen, JARA-BRAIN member Prof. Markus Diesmann and Prof. Matthias Wessling, member of JARA-ENERGY and JARA-SOFT, are also involved in the Center.
