JARA-Professor Rainer Waser Appointed Senior Professor
A bridge-builder in science remains active

Professor Rainer Waser, a distinguished figure in interdisciplinary research, has been appointed Senior Professor at RWTH Aachen University. The award-winning scientist, who has led the Peter Grünberg Institute, Electronic Materials (PGI-7) at Forschungszentrum Jülich, the Institute for Materials in Electrical Engineering II, and the JARA Green IT Institute, will remain closely connected to RWTH and Forschungszentrum Jülich.
Since joining RWTH in 1992, Waser has been dedicated to fostering collaboration across disciplines—an approach he also championed as director of the Peter Grünberg Institute. His commitment to the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance (JARA) has always been of particular importance to him.
Through his interdisciplinary approach, Waser has not only shaped materials research but also strengthened scientific exchange within JARA. In recognition of his outstanding achievements, he was awarded the Leibniz Prize by the German Research Foundation in 2014.
As a Senior Professor, Rainer Waser will continue to contribute his expertise to the scientific community—a significant asset to interdisciplinary research.
