JARA-CSD Scientist Prof. Marco Lübbecke recently received the RWTH Teaching Award
RWTH recently honored Prof. Marco Lübbecke, JARA-CSD scientist, with the 2022 Teaching Award. The mathematician has been Chair of Operations Research since 2010 and was nominated for the award by the students of the Business and Economics Student Council. The University has been recognizing innovative achievements with the Teaching Award since 2001. Professor Aloys Krieg, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Learning, presented the mathematician with the certificate in a special ceremony.
Lübbecke is committed to good teaching and its further development. With the web-based system "tutOR" developed at his chair, students voluntarily learn mathematical modeling of optimization problems and can prepare for the written exam in this way. They work on tasks of varying complexity depending on the level of knowledge they have already acquired, either by themselves or in a team. Lübbecke also uses weekly plans or e-tests, for example, in the Moodle online classroom to help students achieve their learning goals. In addition, they appreciate the current and relevant examples presented in the professor’s lectures and the culture of open communication.
