Launch of JUPITER – Europe’s fastest and most efficient supercomputer
On 5 September 2025, the exascale computer JUPITER was officially inaugurated at Forschungszentrum Jülich, a partner of JARA. In the presence of leading representatives from politics, science and industry – including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and North Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister-President Hendrik Wüst – the international research community celebrated the launch of Europe’s most powerful and energy-efficient supercomputer.
JUPITER is the first European system designed to surpass the threshold of one trillion computing operations per second (1 ExaFLOP/s). Developed by the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) in cooperation with the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, it represents a technological milestone for scientific breakthroughs, digital sovereignty and international competitiveness.
The project is the result of many years of research and development, driven by strong partners from Germany, Europe and across the globe.
