New insights into muons
For about 20 years, experimental measurements of the muon magnetic field have been in discrepancy with theoretical predictions - indicating a possible flaw in our current physical understanding. A new calculation with unprecedented precision brings the theoretical prediction closer to the previous experimental value. The work was carried out with the participation of Jülich scientists and the major part on Jülich supercomputers, and has now been published in the renowned journal Nature. The topic has a special topicality: a new experiment from the USA, with the aim of determining the magnetic field of the muon even more precisely, announced its first results on April 7.
