AgraSim research platform inaugurated – simulating climate impacts on agriculture
On 7 September 2025, the new research platform AgraSim was officially inaugurated at Forschungszentrum Jülich. At the heart of the facility are six state-of-the-art experimental units, where climate extremes such as heat, drought, or heavy rainfall can be precisely simulated. The data generated feed directly into numerical models and digital twins, calculated on supercomputers such as JUPITER. In this way, AgraSim provides novel insights into the interactions between soil, plants, and climate, with the aim of developing robust strategies for sustainable, climate-resilient agriculture.
The platform is primarily led by Prof. Harry Vereecken (JARA-ENERGY, JARA-CSD) and Prof. Ghaleb Natour (JARA-ENERGY).
