Solidarity and Aid for Ukraine from Jülich and Aachen
Armed conflicts between countries and states have devastating effects on the population, infrastructures and daily life. Furthermore, a belligerent attack, such as the one recently carried out by Russia on Ukraine, has consequences for the entire world. The JARA partners RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich have spoken out on this to strongly condemn the attack and have launched aid activities.
JARA-SOFT scientist Andrij Pich initiated a relief action together with the university and the hospital to help the people in Ukraine. This aid campaign aims to support medical staff in local hospitals by providing them with urgently needed medicines, bandages and other medical supplies.
Prof. Pich's efforts are a wonderful example of Ukrainians' advocacy for their own country. Born in Lviv, Ukraine, Prof. Andrij Pich has been doing research and living in Germany for 23 years. The scientist will accompany the transport himself and hand over the aid supplies at the Polish-Ukrainian border to friends and relatives who will ensure that they find their way to the hospitals.

The Research Center also joins the far-reaching sanctions decided by the German government and its international partners. Long-standing cooperation in science and research with Russia and Belarus was stopped immediately. This also means a hard cut for the Forschungszentrum. However, following the discourse that research should be determined by free and peaceful exchange, this measure is necessary.
Further information on these topics is available on the websites of Forschungszentrum Jülich and RWTH Aachen University.
