JARA institutes to bundle competences from Aachen and Jülich
Signing of the contract sets new impulses for innovative research in Germany
On September 30, 2014, Prof. Wolfgang Marquardt, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Forschungszentrum Jülich (left), and Prof. Ernst Schmachtenberg, Rector of RWTH Aachen University, signed a framework agreement to enable the foundation of two new JARA institutes (source: Forschungszentrum Jülich).
“With the JARA Institutes, we are creating a new instrument – outstanding scientific institutions embedded in the existing structures of both Forschungszentrum Jülich and RWTH Aachen University,” said Prof. Schmachtenberg. Prof. Marquardt added that “JARA is once again setting standards for cooperation between a university and a non-university research institution. The alliance will provide an important impetus for the further development of Germany as a location for science.”
Scientists at both of the new JARA-BRAIN institutes, “Brain structure-function relationships in normal and abnormal behaviour” and “Molecular neuroscience & neuroimaging”, will conduct research on current issues associated with the brain. The two JARA-FIT institutes "Green-IT" and "Quantum Information" are specialized in the investigation of information technology.
