A jubilee at the 36th Umbrella Symposium
Since four decades the cooperation Umbrella between the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology and the two German institutions Forschungszentrum Jülich and RWTH Aachen exists. This makes it one of the oldest research collaborations. This year, the partners celebrated the anniversary and this year's Umbrella Awardees at the 36th Umbrella Symposium at the end of May.
In Haifa, Israel, scientists from Jülich and Aachen met with their Israeli colleagues under the topic "Life Science & Engineering: Data Analytics, Neuroscience & Multiscale Biomedical Engineering". The 36th Umbrella Symposium took place at the Technion.
On the very first day, the three Umbrella Awardees were honored and had the opportunity to present their research to the audience.
Dr. Stefan Wiefels from Forschungszentrum Jülich received the award for his work "Variability-Aware Characterization of Memristors for Neuromorphic Applications".
The 2023 award winner from the Technion is Dr. Arielle Fischer. She was honored for her work "Wearable BioMonitoring: Integrating Motion and Biochemical Sensing."
Third in line, Dr. Roger Molto Pallares from RWTH Aachen University was also pleased to receive the Umbrella Award for his work "Manipulating f-element chemistry for healthcare applications".
During the three-day event, the participants were able to take part in six different thematic sessions as well as a lab tour at the Technion.
The Umbrella Symposium is organized on an annual basis and takes place alternately at the three cooperating institutions Technion, RWTH and Forschungszentrum Jülich. The aim of the symposium is to bring together scientists from the three institutions. It provides a platform for scientific exchange. The scientific lectures and discussions usually focus on a changing research area.
The aim of the Umbrella Cooperation is to intensify cooperation between the three institutions and to promote scientific exchange in the technological field.
