Focusing Expertise - Shaping the Future
In the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance (JARA), RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich pool their outstanding expertise in different research areas.These common efforts open up new research opportunities and facilitate projects that would not be attainable for either of the partners on their own. Furthermore, their attention is always focused on the grand challenges facing society.

The North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts will welcome eleven new members to its four classes in 2026. Among them is JARA-ENERGY Director Prof. Antonello Monti, head of the Chair of Automation of Complex Power Systems (ACS) at the E.ON Energy Research Center at RWTH Aachen University. Monti will join the Academy’s Class of Engineering and Economics.

Does hydrogen taste sweet? Probably not, but the foundation for its storage might soon come from sweet sugar beets. Researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich are developing a sustainable storage technology known as "Sweet-LOHC." Prof. Regina Palkovits, a member of JARA-ENERGY, and her team are playing a leading role in this breakthrough.

Prof. Peter Wasserscheid, a member of JARA-ENERGY, has been awarded the Archimedes Science Award 2026. The internationally renowned researcher receives the prize for his pioneering work on the chemical storage of hydrogen and for key contributions to the safe and cost-efficient use of hydrogen within existing energy infrastructures. Wasserscheid is a professor at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and director of several institutes at Forschungszentrum Jülich.
