Focusing Expertise - Shaping the Future
In the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance (JARA), RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich pool their outstanding expertise in five research areas.These common efforts open up new research opportunities and facilitate projects that would not be attainable for either of the partners on their own. Furthermore, their attention is always focused on the grand challenges facing society.

JARA | ENERGY

The German Research Foundation (DFG) is funding the new Research Training Group “Circular Steel – Pioneers for a Circular Economy with Climate-Neutral Steel” at RWTH Aachen University. Under the leadership of Prof. Ulrich Krupp, member of JARA-ENERGY, the programme will train early-career researchers to actively shape the transformation of the steel industry towards a CO₂-neutral circular economy. The focus lies on sustainable steel production, innovative materials development, resource-efficient use, and the evaluation of the entire value chain. The Research Training Group brings together twelve interdisciplinary research projects and contributes to making the steel sector future-proof and climate-friendly.

The Joint Science Conference of the Federal and State Governments has announced that RWTH’s research initiatives within the established Clusters of Excellence ML4Q und FSC², as well as the new Cluster initiative CARE, have been selected for funding. With this success, RWTH is now eligible to apply for further support under the University of Excellence program.
