Does hydrogen taste sweet? Probably not, but the foundation for its storage might soon come from sweet sugar beets. Researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich are developing a sustainable storage technology known as "Sweet-LOHC." Prof. Regina Palkovits, a member of JARA-ENERGY, and her team are playing a leading role in this breakthrough.

Prof. Peter Wasserscheid, a member of JARA-ENERGY, has been awarded the Archimedes Science Award 2026. The internationally renowned researcher receives the prize for his pioneering work on the chemical storage of hydrogen and for key contributions to the safe and cost-efficient use of hydrogen within existing energy infrastructures. Wasserscheid is a professor at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and director of several institutes at Forschungszentrum Jülich.
