JARA-BRAIN: Combined Expertise

The brain determines feelings, thoughts and actions. In JARA-BRAIN, researchers of RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich are looking into the neuroscientific principles of the human control centre.

This brain research alliance between a university and a large research centre, which is unique in Germany, aims at a better understanding of the structure of the brain and how it works – and thus at helping many million people.

The following projects received seed funds within the internal research funding programme:

  • Realtime fMRI and Neurofeedback Platform for JARA-BRAIN (Prof. Dr. Dr. Klaus Mathiak)
  • High Performance Computer Simulations of fMRI- Investigation of the Haemo-dynamic Response at Ultra High Magnetic Field Strength (Dr. Tony Stöcker)
  • Entwicklung eines MEG Online Simulators (Prof. Dr. Peter Tass)
  • Struktur-Funktions-Beziehungen bei Primär Progressiver Aphasie (Dr. Stefan Heim)
  • Development of Distorsion-Free Diffusion Tensor Imaging and Application at High-Field Imaging (Dr. Ana-Maria Oros-Peusquens)
  • Entwicklung von Prädiktoren für die Konversion psychosenaher Prodromal-symptome (Prof. Dr. Ingo Vernaleken)
  • Improving Structural Imaging of the Developing Human Brain (Prof. Dr. Kerstin Konrad)
  • In Vivo Characterization of Brain Networks (Dr. Svenja Caspers)
  • Monitoring of fkuoroethyl-L-Tyrosine Uptake (Prof. Dr. Michael J. Eble)
  • Strukturelle Determinanten exitatorischer und inhibitorischer synaptischer Transmission und Plastizität im Neocortex des Menschen (Prof. Dr. Joachim Lübke)
  • Strukturelle und funktionelle MRT-Verlaufsuntersuchungen bei depressiven Patienten während Elektrokrampftherapie (Dr. Michael Grözinger)

As part of a cooperation project between RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich (JARA), a new database was created, that provides comprehensive overview of the main research areas in energy of the two institutions.
