Applying for computing time

Applications for computing time on the JARA-HPC partition can be submitted by any scientist of RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich qualified in his or her respective field of research. Computing resources are being allocated in accordance with the criteria and procedures of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).

Prospective users can apply for computing time twice a year at defined periods of time.

To apply for computing time on the JARA-HPC partition, please proceed as follows:

  1. First write a detailed project description and - in case of a project extension - a status report. Please adhere to the guidelines on form, content and scope of project descriptions and status reports.

  2. Complete the electronic questionnaire and attach the project description as well as any additional documents to the questionnaire as pdf files.
Please note that (besides the technical information regarding the planned simulations) all computing time applications that have been submitted to German Computing Centers within the last 3 years have to be listed in the electronic questionnaire, regardless of whether their content is similar to the current proposal or not.

  3. With the finalization of your project application a form is created. Please print this form, sign it and send it to the Coordination Office for the Allocation of Computing Time preferably by email.

Acknowledgements

Papers, presentations, and other publications containing results obtained on the supercomputers that are part of the JARA-HPC Partition must include proper acknowledgements. The wording of the acknowledgement depends on the system used within the JARA-HPC Partition. Please choose the text appropriate from the list below.

JUQUEEN (Anträge >35 Mio. Core-h)

Only through Gauss Centre for Supercomputing

Please note:

JUQUEEN is expected to be shut down by the end of March 2018 due to a system change. Therefore, the system is expected to be available for five months in the upcoming computing time period. JARA-HPC projects on JUQUEEN, which will start on November 01, 2017, will only run for five months. The resource management plan and work schedule have to be adapted accordingly. For highly scalable applications the JURECA Booster Module will be available within the JARA-HPC Partition. Applicants can already apply for resources on the JURECA Booster Module for the upcoming period.

You can find the guidelines on applications for computing time here.

Please contact the  Coordination office for the Allocation of Computing Time if you have any further questions concerning the application.
